Fear Of Needles:

About:

Trypanophobia is the excessive fear of needles within the context of getting an injection. Though most people find getting an injection unpleasant and even a little scary, someone with Trypanophobia well become hysterical at just the idea of getting an injection and might not even be able to look at a picture of a needle. This of course means getting necessary injections very tricky indeed. Many people who have this fear also have the phobia of fear of pain, (agliophobia) and the fear of blood (Hemophobia).

The meaning of comes from the Greek Word 'trypano ' which means  'Auger'  which in ancient Greece was a device to bore holes, and 'phobos', which means to dread or to fear.
Can I Be Cured?

Interesting Fact:

Of those who suffer with this phobia, 20% actually avoid needed medical treatment as a result. This obviously puts a lot of people at risk!

Causes:

Most people develop this fear through a perceived traumatic experience with a needle. This could be because of a variety of situations that usually happen in childhood, but Trypanophobia can also develop in adulthood. The fear could develop simply from a routine injection that a child found terrifying and could not understand why their parents were not protecting them from the pain. Or perhaps the injection missed a vein and had to be done multiple times to draw blood.

Something like a traumatic accident or health condition where a child or an adult has to spend a long time in the hospital constantly receiving injections could trigger the phobia. A child might also have witnessed family suffering in the hospital receiving injections and possibly dying. This could create a fear of needles along with the  doctors (Latrophobia), hospitals (Nosocomephobia), and the fear of death (Thanatophobia).

Another reason is if child was warned by a parent or an adult they trust to never touch needles because they are 'dirty' and can potentially spread disease, this could create a feeling of terror within the child's mind. Or if the adult themselves had the phobia and exhibited fear of injections themselves. Phobias are easily learned from parents and other familiar adults by children.

In adults, the phobia can develop If they received bad news of a positive result for a life limiting disease or if someone close to them did, this could be linked back to needles and create a subconscious trigger. Many people who have Trypanophobia also have a general extreme fear of any type of pain. (Agliophobia)

Symptoms:

A very common reaction for people with the fear of needles (and also Hemophobia, the fear of blood,) is to feel dizzy and faint. People with Trypanophobia will want to avoid this embarrassment which can also add to the fear.

Trypanphobics will feel extreme anxiety over anything to do with needles. They might become very disorientated and frantic to escape while at the doctors. This might be end up with them being sedated. They might refuse to go to the doctors or get needed medical treatment because of their fear.

Symptoms can include:
  1. Rapid heart rate
  2. Dizziness
  3. Crying
  4. Hysteria
  5. Chest pain
  6. Feeling of choking
  7. Fainting
  8. Trembling and/or sweating
  9. Hyperventilating
  10. Nausea or other gastrointestinal distress

They will experience a range of different physical symptoms that could include a racing heart, cold sweat, screaming/crying, hyperventilating, tremors and feeling nauseous, all of which could build up to a full blown panic attack.

Why You Should Get Treated:

The most important reason to seek treatment if you are suffering from Trypanphobia is your health. A serious fear of needles could stop you from getting important medical treatment that can save your life as well as extend the quality of your life, so it is imperative to overcome!

You could also teach it to your children or others children which could affect their future health.
Also, you could miss out on traveling to certain destinations that need precautionary inoculations. This limits how you want to live your life.

Besides this, being afraid of needles can be embarrassing especially if you faint at the doctors. It can also become dangerous if you fall down and hurt yourself from fainting. The phobia can also contribute to behaviour issues and anxiety problems within other phobias and fears so it is an important anxiety to break free from.

Why Seek The Phobia Guru For Treatment:

AI am often able to help people break free of their phobia in just one session, using the scientifically proven power of hypnotherapy combined with NLP and an immersive therapy option. My therapy skillfully combines these techniques uniquely to create the most powerful, effective and quickest way to beat a phobia.  You will be in the hands of a trained phobia expert who will help you transform your mind and liberate yourself from even the most extreme fears.

Hypnotherapy is so effective with phobias because it tackles the underlying trigger of the phobia within the subconscious. Once a person has access to their subconscious they can eliminate their conditioned response to the stimulus. So instead of treating just the symptoms, hypnotherapy can heal the source for a lasting result. The best part about hypnotherapy and phobias is that often it only takes one session to completely get over the phobia so you do not have to spend a lot of money on continual treatment. The NHS also promotes hypnotherapy as an effective treatment for phobias.
