The Fear of failure: Atchiphobia

What is Atchiphobia?

Atchiphobia is the extreme fear of failure. We all have a certain level of fear of failure, as it is something no one wants to experience, but usually most people find inner strength to overcome self doubt.  Someone suffering from this phobia will suffer from very high levels of anxiety and literally have a panic attack in situations where failure is perceived.

The meaning of comes from the Greek Word 'atyches ' which translates to 'unfortunate', and 'phobos', which means to dread or to fear.
Can I BE Cured?

Interesting Fact:

This phobia is also known as 'kakorrhaphiophobia' another word from Greek origin. 'Kako' means 'bad' in Greek. This phobia also covers the fear of rejection.

Causes:

Like all phobias, Atchiphobia is usually formed in childhood. Most frequently it is the result of a demanding parent or parents who have very high expectations for the child.  The child might feel that they are always failing and letting the parents down when not living up to these expectations. Instinctually, a child wants to please and make parents proud so there can be severe damage to the child's psychology when they are unable to accomplish this. This constant reinforcement of failure from parents can create a phobia in the subconscious mind of the child around any form of failure.

The phobia could also stem from a traumatic event in childhood where the child perceived extreme consequences due to their own feelings of failure whether the reality of this is true or not.

Modern society also has high expectations and rigid constructs of what defines a 'successful' person. If someone is unable to conform to these ideals, they can then develop the phobia over their own anxiety of perceived failure. They might interoperate themselves as a rejected member of society.

Symptoms:

People experiencing Atchiphobia will often have very poor self esteem and a pessimistic outlook on life. They will often not try to attempt anything new unless they feel that they have a guaranteed chance of having success at accomplishing it. Often they can be described as 'perfectionist' and if something is not perfect or has a chance of not being perfect it is a way to avoid it all together. This is actually a mindset of the person with Atchiphobia to avoid any situation that might trigger failure.

Because of this, people with Atchiphobia will often self sabotage to avoid being in any situation that might result in failure. They might be constantly making excuses for why they cannot go or do or try something and this in turn might result in them becoming very isolated. Someone with this failure usually is constantly worrying about almost everything.

This might cause them to suffer from insomnia and may appear fatigued and exhausted regularly. They will often have a nervous disposition.
If they are in a situation of perceived failure they may have a panic attack in a heightened state of anxiety. This could include crying uncontrollably, lashing out vocally or even physically, trembling, shaking, sweaty palms, having an accelerated heart rate or breathing patterns, even feeling dizzy and nauseas.

Why Should I Get Treated:

This phobia is one of the most detrimental of all the phobias because it goes beyond something on the outside that frightens you, it is a phobia that makes you afraid of your own self. Not only that but it also causes you to hate yourself. This phobia is at the core of many mental illnesses and can destroy lives. This phobia can taint and sabotage every aspect of life as it makes you see life through a very distorted and dark pair of glasses.

When you suffer from this phobia, life is overwhelming. Everything is too much, too difficult and too impossible and the fear makes you feel like you will never be good enough. You will miss out on so many life opportunities from careers, to relationships, traveling, to hobbies, all because an unrealistic fear that you will fail. The regrets and limitations will have a huge impact on your quality of life.

The constant strain of anxiety and potentially insomnia will also take a huge toll on your physical health and further aggravate the symptoms and put more and more at risk in your life. Even things you feel like you can do well will start to suffer because of your declining mental health. There is no need to spend life perceiving yourself as a failure when healing and self love can grow and overcome deep wounds of failure.

Why See The Phobia Guru For Treatment:

I am able to help people break free of their phobia often in just one session with the scientifically proven power of hypnotherapy combined with NLP and an immersive therapy option. My therapy skillfully combines these techniques uniquely to create the most powerful, effective and quickest way to beat a phobia.  You will be in the hands of a trained phobia expert who will help you transform your mind and liberate yourself from even the most extreme fears.

Hypnotherapy is so effective with phobias because it tackles the underlying trigger of the phobia within the subconscious. Once a person has access to their subconscious they can eliminate their conditioned response to the stimulus. So instead of treating just the symptoms, hypnotherapy can heal the source for a lasting result. The best part about hypnotherapy and phobias is that often it only takes one session to completely get over the phobia so you do not have to spend a lot of money on continual treatment. The NHS also promotes hypnotherapy as an effective treatment for phobias.
