Nokia has launched its smartphone, the 9 PureView that features 5 camera lenses, 1 flash and an infrared sensor. The reactions to the 7 ‘holes’ arranged in a cluster have been generally been positive- due to the camera quality. However, those who suffer from Trypophobia are outraged and have expressed their disgust by comparing the phone to a lotus head, a spiders eyes and even a shower head. NOTE: As this blog is dedicated to bringing awareness and support for people with phobias, there aren't any pictures that could potentially trigger Trypophobes. Twitter user @noelthewalrus expressed his disapproval of Nokia's latest design, stating that it is "triggering panic attacks." He also warned others "don't look up the new Nokia!" Trypophobia is the fear of a cluster of holes. The size of the holes can worsen the reactions to the clusters. Not all experts agree that Trypophobia is a real phobia as they argue it is simply a disgust response. This being said, there have been several cases where the reaction is so strong it causes panic attacks, vomiting and an inability to concentrate for some minutes up to hours. Another twitter user, @gideonaduku shared how the lenses made him feel, describing them as "creepy". Those with extreme Trypophobia not only fear the holes but what could be inside and come out. Not knowing this can cause further anxiety and fear. Experts believe that the reason so many people feel uncomfortable around holes is that it can be associated with venomous animals, such as spiders, skin diseases and infections. @jewell71_annie , a mother tweeted about herself and her daughter being triggered after seeing a picture of the new Nokia.
